The Test

For the testing purposes, the Corsair TX650 650W power supply was installed in the system with the following components:

Test Platform
CPUIntel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.0GHZ
MotherboardAsus P5K Premium
RAM4GB (2x2GB) G.Skill DDR2 1000
Graphics card(s)eVGA 8800 GTX
Drive(s)3x36GB WD Raptors ADFD in RAID 0, 2x320GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 in RAID 1

Fans5x120mm, 1x80mm, 1x60mm, 1x40mm, Corsair Dominator RAM cooler
CaseLIAN LI PC-V2100B
Operating SystemVista Ultra 32-bit

Idle voltages were measured by powering the system at default speeds, and voltages with no applications were running for at least 30 minutes.

The load condition was established by running loops of the SM graphics test from 3DMark06 at 1600x1200 resolution with enabled 8x AA and 16x AF and Orthos (4 cores) at the same time for 24 hours. All voltage rails were measured using a digital multimeter by tapping into various connectors. In addition to these stressful applications running, the loaded system was overclocked and overvolted to add more demand to the CPU and graphics card.

The Corsair TX650 650W has an outstanding voltage regulation. Corsair guarantees the TX650W to deliver 650W DC power at 50°C
Voltage fluctuations were minimal and stayed well within ATX standards. The thermal performance is also great but with increasing load 120mm fan gets a bit noisy (see the noise level chart below).
